Meredith St Heritage Rebuild
Located within Queanbeyan's historic conservation area, this project involved the complete transformation of a modest 1950s cottage into a contemporary family home while respecting the heritage character of the surrounding streetscape.
To preserve the home's original presence, the front three Canberra red double-brick walls were carefully retained. The remainder of the existing dwelling and outbuildings were demolished, allowing for the construction of an entirely new residence behind the retained façade.
Working within a heritage setting required a considered approach throughout the build. By retaining key elements of the original home while delivering a completely new structure, the project successfully bridges the gap between old and new, preserving the character of the street while providing the comfort, functionality and performance expected of a modern family home.
The result is a home that honours its history without being constrained by it, combining the durability of new construction with the established character of one of Queanbeyan's most recognised heritage precincts.
