The 1970 Remodel
This project involved the renovation and extension of a 1970s double brick home in Queanbeyan, transforming the original layout into a more open and functional family space while adding new living areas to support modern day living.
The existing home was remodelled to create a larger kitchen that now connects seamlessly with a combined living and dining area. Achieving this required significant structural work, including removing internal load bearing walls and opening the rear double brick wall to create a more open connection to the outdoor areas.
As part of the extension, a new master bedroom was added complete with an ensuite and walk-in robe, along with a study that can also function as a fourth bedroom. A new laundry was incorporated into the design to improve the functionality of the home.
Externally, the project included the construction of a detached garage and a covered deck that links the garage to the main house, creating a practical connection between the spaces. A blackbutt deck was also added to the courtyard, providing an additional outdoor area for relaxing and entertaining.
Inside the home, new rustic grade blackbutt hardwood flooring was installed throughout, bringing warmth and continuity across both the original structure and the new extension. The exterior features Lysaght Snap Seam cladding, giving the extension a clean and contemporary finish that complements the existing home.
